VW Typ 82 Kübelwagen | 0312 (312) | Italeri | 1:35
The Volkswagen Typ 82 Kübelwagen was the standard light liaison and transport vehicle of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Developed by Ferdinand Porsche, the vehicle combined a simple design with surprisingly good off-road capability, despite the lack of four-wheel drive.
The Kübelwagen was deployed on all fronts from 1940, from North Africa to the Eastern Front. Thanks to its low weight, flat bottom, and limited-slip differential, the vehicle offered excellent performance on sand, snow, and mud. It served as a liaison vehicle, reconnaissance tool, and light transport for personnel and equipment, similar to the Allied Jeep but with a different technical philosophy.
Technically, the Typ 82 was equipped with an air-cooled 1,131 cc four-cylinder boxer engine, placed in the rear and producing approximately 25 hp. Its top speed was about 80 km/h. The vehicle was easy to maintain and very reliable, but its open design and lack of armor made it vulnerable to enemy fire.
In total, approximately 50,000 Kübelwagen units were produced. This Italeri model is based on this iconic German vehicle and is an indispensable addition to dioramas and vehicle displays from World War II.
