S.79 Sparviero Bomber version | 1412 | Italeri | 1:72
The S.79 Sparviero was an Italian trimotor bomber aircraft that made its first flight in 1934 and remained in production until the beginning of the Second World War. The aircraft was powered by three 780 hp Alfa Romeo 126 RC 34 radial engines, allowing it to reach a top speed of approximately 430 km/h and giving it an operational range of about 1,500 km.
The armament consisted of three to four 7.7 mm machine guns placed in nose, side, and tail turrets, while the aircraft could carry a bomb load of up to 1,200 kg. This configuration made the S.79 effective for tactical and strategic bombing, both over land and at sea.
Approximately 571 units of the S.79 Bomber were produced, and the aircraft was deployed on multiple fronts, including the Mediterranean and North Africa. It played an important role in both day and night operations and was valued for its speed and robustness compared to other bombers of that time.
The S.79 is remembered for its distinctive trimotor configuration and streamlined design, which made the aircraft one of the most recognizable Italian bombers of WWII. The nickname Sparviero, meaning sparrowhawk, referred to the precision and speed with which the aircraft could attack its targets.
This Italeri model is based on this iconic bomber and represents one of the most recognizable aircraft of the Italian Air Force during the Second World War.
