The Macchi MC.200 Saetta was an Italian fighter aircraft developed in the late 1930s and entered production in 1939. The aircraft represented an important step in the modernization of the Italian Air Force and was deployed during the early years of the Second World War. The aircraft was powered by a Fiat A.74 RC 38 radial engine with an output of approximately 870 hp, allowing it to reach speeds of about 500 km/h. It was known for its strong construction and excellent maneuverability, particularly at low and medium altitudes.
The armament consisted of two 12.7 mm machine guns in the nose, which provided sufficient firepower for dogfights in the early years of the war. Although the armament was relatively limited, the good maneuverability made the aircraft effective in aerial combat and escort missions.
