Hurricane Mk.I Aces | 2838 | Italeri | 1:48
The Hurricane Mk.I was one of the most important British fighters during the early phase of the Second World War and played a crucial role in the defense of the United Kingdom. This variant was produced starting in 1937 and, together with other British fighters, formed the backbone of air defense during the first years of the war. The aircraft was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin III V12 engine with an output of approximately 1,030 hp, allowing it to reach speeds of around 520 km/h. The Hurricane was known for its robust construction and stable flight characteristics, making the aircraft highly resistant to combat damage and relatively easy to repair.
Its armament consisted of eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns in the wings, which provided a high density of fire during air combat. This made the aircraft particularly effective against bombers. Some variants could carry light bombs for attacks on ground targets, but the Mk.I was primarily deployed as an interceptor fighter.
During the Battle of Britain in 1940, the Hurricane took on the majority of interception missions. Historical research shows that Hurricanes were responsible for approximately 55 to 60 percent of the German aircraft shot down during this campaign. As a result, the aircraft made a decisive contribution to maintaining British air superiority and was a significant factor in the failure of German invasion plans.
The Hurricane was flown by well-known pilots such as Douglas Bader, Robert Stanford Tuck and Tom Neil, who valued the aircraft for its stable shooting platform and reliability in combat situations. Within the Royal Air Force in particular, the Hurricane was known as an aircraft that gave pilots confidence during intense aerial combat.
This Italeri model is based on this iconic fighter and represents one of the most recognizable aircraft of the British air defense during the Second World War, flown by pilots who played a key role in the air war over Europe.
