Focke-Wulf 190 D-9 “Dora” | 1312 | Italeri | 1:72
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9, nicknamed “Dora”, was a late-war Luftwaffe fighter aircraft that came as an unexpected surprise to Allied air forces upon its first deployment in 1944. With its elongated nose and significantly improved high-altitude performance, the D-9 was initially even mistaken for an entirely new aircraft type, causing confusion and unease among Allied pilots.
The D-9 was equipped with a Junkers Jumo 213A liquid-cooled engine, allowing it to reach a top speed of approximately 685 km/h and providing excellent climb performance. Its armament consisted of two 13 mm MG 131 machine guns above the engine and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons in the wings. This combination made the Fw 190 D-9 particularly effective as an interceptor and dogfighter in the final phase of the war.
Although the aircraft became available in large numbers too late to influence the course of the war, the Fw 190 D-9 proved itself to be one of the best German fighters of its time. A total of approximately 700 units were produced. This Italeri model is based on this impressive variant and represents one of the final and most advanced fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe.
