Focke-Wulf 190 D-9 “Dora” | 1312 | Italy | 1:72

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9, nicknamed “Dora” , was a late-war fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe that presented an unexpected surprise to Allied air forces when it first flew in 1944. With its elongated nose and significantly improved higher-altitude performance, the D-9 was initially mistaken for an entirely new aircraft type, causing confusion and unease among Allied pilots.

The D-9 was equipped with a Junkers Jumo 213A liquid-cooled engine, giving it a top speed of approximately 685 km/h (420 mph) and excellent climb performance. Its armament consisted of two 13 mm MG 131 machine guns above the engine and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons in the wings. This combination made the Fw 190 D-9 particularly effective as an interceptor and fighter in the final stages of the war.

Although it arrived too late in large numbers to influence the course of the war, the Fw 190 D-9 proved to be one of the best German fighters of its time. A total of approximately 700 examples were produced. This Italeri model is based on this impressive variant and represents one of the Luftwaffe's last and most advanced fighter aircraft.
