Focke-Wulf Ta 152H-1 | 5577 (05577) | Dragon | 1:48
The Focke-Wulf Ta 152 was a late development of the Fw 190 family, named after designer Kurt Tank. The H version was specifically designed for high-altitude combat. Its long wings and extended fuselage made it distinctly different from the original Fw 190.
A liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 engine provided the power. A pressurized cockpit and systems for extra engine power were intended to support performance at altitude. The armament consisted of a heavy motor cannon and additional cannons in the wing roots.
The Ta 152H only became available in limited numbers in the final months of the war. Aircraft were used by units including Jagdgeschwader 301. Poor supply, limited training time, and the collapsing German infrastructure prevented widespread operational deployment.
The type therefore did not become a decisive factor in the air war. Its historical significance lies primarily in the advanced development of the piston-engine fighter at the moment when jet aircraft were making their debut. The Ta 152H-1 illustrates the technical solutions that were still being sought to increase speed and high-altitude performance.
