The CR.32 Freccia was an Italian biplane fighter aircraft developed in the 1930s and deployed operationally during the early phase of World War II. It was powered by a Fiat A.30 RA bis V12 engine with approximately 600 hp, which allowed it to reach speeds of up to around 360 km/h. Thanks to its lightweight construction and strong fuselage, the aircraft was known for its excellent maneuverability and climbing ability.
Its armament consisted of two 12.7 mm machine guns mounted synchronously in the nose. This armament provided sufficient firepower for air combat during the period in which the aircraft was deployed. The CR.32 was particularly valued for its stability during combat maneuvers and its robustness under harsh operational conditions.
Approximately 1,200 units were produced. The aircraft was deployed in various operations in Europe and the Mediterranean and played a significant role in the development of air combat tactics. Pilots praised the aircraft for its reliability and direct steering response, which made it highly suitable for close combat situations.
The CR.32 is remembered as one of the most successful Italian fighter aircraft of its generation and represented an important transition between traditional biplanes and more modern monoplanes. The name Freccia, meaning arrow, referred to the speed and precision with which the aircraft could be deployed.
