This specially modified commando version was based on the Willys MB and developed for operations behind enemy lines during World War II. The vehicle was used by special forces focusing on rapid assaults, reconnaissance missions, and sabotage operations, where mobility and firepower were crucial.
For these tasks, the vehicle was heavily modified compared to standard versions. It could be equipped with multiple machine guns, making it suitable for fast and intensive combat during surprise attacks. Additionally, extra fuel tanks with a total capacity of approximately 135 liters were installed, enabling long-range patrols in remote and hostile areas. The crew typically consisted of two soldiers, keeping the vehicle compact, fast, and tactically flexible.
Technically, the vehicle featured four-wheel drive and a robust 2.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with approximately 60 hp, ensuring excellent off-road performance and a top speed of about 100 km/h. Its open design allowed for rapid deployment and good visibility but offered no protection against enemy fire or harsh weather conditions.
This Italeri model is based on this heavily armed commando version of the Willys MB and represents a striking and historically interesting vehicle that played an important role in special operations during World War II.
