A-26 B Invader | 1274 | Italeri | 1:72
The Douglas A-26 Invader was a fast and heavily armed American attack aircraft that entered service at the end of World War II. Designed as a replacement for older medium bombers, the Invader combined high speed with great versatility, making the aircraft highly effective in both precision bombing and ground attack missions.
The A-26B was the attack variant and was known for its massive nose armament. Depending on the configuration, the aircraft could be equipped with six to eight 12.7 mm machine guns in the nose, supplemented by additional armament in the wings and turrets. The Invader was powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engines, good for a top speed of approximately 570 km/h. Thanks to its speed and robust construction, the aircraft remained in service for many years and was later deployed during the Korean War.
In total, approximately 2,450 units of the A-26 Invader were produced. This Italeri model is based on this powerful attack version and represents one of the most successful American attack aircraft from the transition period between World War II and the post-war era.
