Spitfire Mk.V / Mk.IX Aces | 1482 | Italeri | 1:72
The Spitfire Mk.V and Mk.IX were British fighter aircraft that played an important role during the Second World War and were known for their excellent maneuverability and aerodynamic design. The Mk.V was produced from 1941 onwards and represented a significant development of earlier variants. The Mk.IX appeared from 1942 as a response to new threats and remained in production until the end of the war. Both variants were powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines with power outputs ranging from approximately 1,440 to 1,720 hp, which allowed for top speeds of up to around 650 km/h and excellent performance at various altitudes.
The armament generally consisted of a combination of 20 mm cannons and 7.7 mm or 12.7 mm machine guns mounted in the wings. This configuration provided a strong balance between firepower and precision, making the aircraft effective in aerial combat and interception missions. In addition, bombs could be carried for ground attacks and tactical support.
Thousands of these variants were produced and they were deployed on virtually all major fronts, including Western Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa. The aircraft played a crucial role in air defense, escort operations, and offensive air actions. Due to their performance and reliability, they were flown by many successful pilots.
The Spitfire is remembered as one of the most iconic Allied fighter aircraft and was known for its characteristic wing shape and excellent flight handling characteristics. The designation "Aces" refers to the pilots who achieved multiple aerial victories with these variants during intense air battles.
This Italeri model is based on this iconic fighter and represents one of the most recognizable aircraft of the British Air Force during the Second World War.
