The Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete was an Italian fighter-bomber from the Second World War, designed for attacks on ground and naval targets. The aircraft combined speed and agility with a significant bomb load, allowing it to perform both tactical support for ground troops and attacks on maritime targets.
The aircraft was powered by a Piaggio P.XIX R. radial engine of approximately 1,175 hp, enabling it to reach a top speed of about 530 km/h and operate effectively at low to medium altitudes. The aircraft had a robust design capable of withstanding light damage, and offered the pilot good visibility and control during precision attacks.
The armament consisted of two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns in the nose for air combat, supplemented by one 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine gun in the cockpit canopy for defensive purposes. For attacks, the aircraft could carry a bomb load of up to 200–250 kg, which made it effective against bunkers, vehicles, and ships.
