Lancia Fulvia HF Rally Montecarlo 1972 | 3670 | Italeri | 1:24
The Lancia Fulvia Coupé appeared in 1965 and became one of the most famous Italian rally cars of its time. Its design combined front-wheel drive with a compact V4 engine with a narrow cylinder angle. The relatively lightweight body and precise steering were well-suited for narrow, winding rally roads.
The 1.6 HF was the more powerful, competition-oriented development. The early version was nicknamed "Fanalone" due to its large inner headlights. Under the hood lay an approximately 1.6-liter V4, while modifications to the chassis and brakes made the car suitable for tough racing conditions.
The Fulvia was built from a series-production model, but rally cars received specialized equipment and were constantly modified. On snow, mountain roads, and varying road surfaces, a good balance often carried as much weight as pure engine power.
The most famous success came at the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally, where Sandro Munari and Mario Mannucci won with the Fulvia HF. The victory contributed to Lancia's international rally reputation and forms an important chapter before the arrival of the Stratos. The Fulvia shows how a relatively small car could defeat major opponents thanks to sophisticated engineering and a strong crew.
