The Junkers Ju 52/3m was one of the most recognizable and versatile transport aircraft of the German Luftwaffe and played a crucial role in almost every major German operation during the Second World War. Originally designed as a civil transport aircraft, the Ju 52 was quickly adapted for military use, where it became the standard workhorse for troop transport, supply, and airborne operations.
The aircraft was known for its characteristic corrugated metal fuselage and great reliability under difficult conditions. Powered by three BMW 132 radial engines, the Ju 52 achieved a practical cruising speed of approximately 220 km/h and could carry about 18 fully equipped soldiers or an equivalent load of cargo. Defensive armament typically consisted of multiple machine guns for protection during transport flights.
The Ju 52 was used extensively during, among other operations, the campaigns in Poland, Norway, and airborne operations in Crete. In total, more than 4,800 units of all variants were produced. This Italeri model is based on this iconic three-engine transport machine and represents one of the most widely used and recognizable aircraft in military aviation history.
