The FIAT CR.42 CN Falco was an Italian biplane fighter specially adapted for night flying during World War II. This variant, developed in the early 1940s, was based on the standard CR.42 but equipped with instruments and lighting for night operations. The aircraft was powered by a Fiat A.74 RC 38 radial engine with an output of approximately 840 hp, allowing speeds of up to about 440 km/h.

Armament consisted of two 12.7 mm machine guns in the nose of the aircraft. Despite its limited armament, its excellent maneuverability and robust construction made the aircraft effective in nocturnal aerial combat and interception missions.

Only a few dozen of these night fighters were produced. The CR.42 CN was deployed on the Italian mainland and in North Africa, primarily for defense against enemy bombing raids in night operations. Pilots praised the aircraft for its stability, control, and reliable performance under challenging conditions.

The CR.42 CN is remembered as one of the few night fighter biplanes of the Italian air force and was known for its distinctive silhouette and agility. Its nickname Falco, meaning falcon, referred to the speed and sharpness with which the aircraft could intercept its targets.
