The F4U-7 Corsair was an advanced fighter-bomber designed for deployment from aircraft carriers and for maritime operations. The aircraft combined speed, maneuverability, and heavy firepower, and was used for air combat, ground attacks, and supporting ground troops.
The F4U-7 was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-18W double-row radial engine with water injection, producing approximately 2,450 hp. This allowed the aircraft to reach a top speed of around 720 km/h and operate at high altitudes and long distances. The distinctive inverted gull wing design provided better stability at low speeds and improved visibility during deck operations.
Its armament consisted of four 20 mm M2 cannons mounted in the wings, each with approximately 400 rounds. Additionally, the aircraft could carry an external load of up to approximately 900 kg, including bombs of various weights, 127 mm rockets, and maritime attack weaponry. This made the aircraft particularly effective in close air support, ground attack, and anti-ship operations.
