The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle was developed as an American air superiority fighter. Its first flight took place in 1972. The design prioritized strong radar performance, high engine power, and good maneuverability without the constraints of an initial attack role.
Two afterburning turbofan engines power the aircraft. The large wing and twin tails provide space for fuel and control at varying speeds. The F-15C is a single-seat version with improvements over the initial A variant.
The aircraft can carry air-to-air missiles for various ranges and features a built-in 20 mm Vulcan cannon. The radar supports target detection and tracking. External tanks increase range for patrols and deployments.
F-15Cs played an important role in air defense during the 1991 Gulf War, among other conflicts. The family remained in service for a long time due to modernizations. The C version primarily represents the specialized fighter role, while the visually related F-15E was developed for a heavy attack role.
