German Infantry (Battle of the Hedgerows 1944) | 06025 (6025) | Dragon | 1:35
Following the Allied landings in Normandy in June 1944, a large part of the fighting took place between hedgerows, earthen banks, and small fields. This bocage landscape restricted visibility and divided the battle into short, often difficult-to-monitor confrontations.
German infantrymen used hedgerows and sunken roads for cover and camouflaged firing positions. Machine guns were a key part of the defense. Short-range anti-tank weapons could pose a danger in this terrain to vehicles advancing without sufficient infantry support.
The figure set places German infantry in this specific phase of the campaign. Equipment, posture, and cooperation were tailored to close-quarters combat and limited lines of sight. The subject demonstrates why terrain and small infantry groups in Normandy had such a major influence on the progress of an offensive.
