CANT Z.501 Gabb iano | 0112 (112) | Italeri | 1:72
The CANT Z.501 Gabbiano was an Italian single-engine seaplane developed in the 1930s for maritime reconnaissance and rescue operations. The aircraft was used by the Regia Aeronautica and was known for its long range and stable flight characteristics over the sea, making it particularly suitable for long patrol flights.
During the Second World War, the Z.501 was primarily used for coastal reconnaissance, anti-submarine patrols, and air-sea rescue missions. Although the aircraft was lightly armed and vulnerable, it proved its value through its endurance and versatility in maritime operations.
This Italeri model is based on this characteristic Italian flying boat and highlights a lesser-known but important part of maritime aviation history during the Second World War.
