AS332 Super Puma | 91096 | Italeri | 1:72
The Aérospatiale AS332 Super Puma was developed as a larger and improved successor to the SA330 Puma. The first prototype flew in 1978. The family found customers in both military and civil aviation.
Two turbine engines provide propulsion. The spacious cabin can be configured for personnel, cargo, or rescue operations. Improved performance and a robust construction made the helicopter suitable for use under various weather and terrain conditions.
Civilian Super Pumas were used for purposes such as transport to offshore installations. Military users deployed the family for tactical transport, supply, and search and rescue missions. The equipment varies by customer, which is why the same base appears in different roles.
The design was further developed over several decades under Aérospatiale, Eurocopter, and Airbus. The AS332 shows how a transport helicopter can achieve a long service life through targeted improvements to engines, systems, and mission equipment. The combination of range and cabin volume remained a defining factor.
